The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) at The University of Texas at Austin and the Society for the Study of Gloria Anzaldúa (SSGA) invite you to: El Mundo Zurdo 2015: Memoria y Conocimiento: Interdisciplinary Anzalduan Studies—Archive, Legacy, and Thought. The conference will take place May 27-30, 2015 at UT Austin.
Ten years ago, UT Austin organized and hosted a memorial for Gloria Anzaldúa in commemoration of her life and work. Activists, artists, and academics from across the country participated in the celebration of Anzaldúa’s legacy. Following her passing, LLILAS-Benson Latin American Studies and Collections became the repository of the "Gloria Evangelina Anzaldúa Papers, 1942-2004." Scholars and activists travel from around the globe to work with Anzaldúa’s personal papers, which include "correspondence, written works, audio tape interviews, reviews, clippings, photographs, posters, artwork, and collected materials."
In addition to a rich range of academic panels engaging this archive and Anzaldúa's work more broadly, the 2015 conference will feature:
- An Archive Workshop at LLILAS-Benson with Dr. AnaLouise Keating
- An Opening Plenary by Dr. Maria Cotera
- A Featured Roundtable with former LLILAS-Benson Fellows
- A Plenary Roundtable with Dr. Marisa Belausteguigoitia Ruis, Dr. Maria Lugones, and Dr. Smadar Lavie
El Mundo Zurdo 2015 is free and open to the public, which is made possible through the sponsorship of the Center for Mexican American Studies, the Department of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies (MALS), and LLILAS-Benson.
